Bath Cal Ripken opens season

BATH — Bath Iron Works took down Smith-Tobey, 4-1 as the Bath Cal Ripken baseball season began over the weekend.

Gage Suitter pitched three innings with nine strikeouts for the win. Eli Sommers pitched one inning with one strikeout in relief.

Whalon Rhorer led BIW with a single and two runs batted in.

Eagles drop lax tilt to Marshwood

ELIOT — Eli Schoenberg had two goals, both assisted by Nolan Blessington, but the Mt. Ararat High School jayvee boys lacrosse team dropped a 17-2 decision to Marshwood on Saturday.

Logan Eltzroth had four saves in the Eagles cage.

Mt. Ararat visits Morse on Thursday.

USM’S Meier Rookie of Week

GORHAM— The Little East Conference announced Monday afternoon that University of Southern Maine freshman Cam Meier of Bowdoinham is among the athletes receiving weekly honors for their performances at the 2018 Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships this past Saturday.

Meier was picked as the LEC Men’s Track Rookie of the Week.

However, according to Shipbuilders coach Will Laffely, his team had yet to see a pitcher like Oceanside’s Chloe Jones.
