Sparked by 14 second-half points from Jack Simonds, the Bowdoin College men’s basketball team overcame a seven-point second-half deficit to defeat Bates on Thursday evening in Morrell Gymnasium, 70-63.

The Polar Bears snapped a brief two-game losing streak and improved to 7-2 overall. The Bobcats fell to 4-2 on the campaign.

Rachel J. Beaudoin, age 96, died on December 1st. She was born in Brunswick on January 22, 1921, daughter of Ludger and Flora Ouellette. She graduated from Brunswick High School, and later married Edward F. Beaudoin in 1941. They lived for many years on Boody Street, where they raised five children. Rachel lived most of her life in Brunswick, where she maintained many life-long friendships.

Republican Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona is resigning next month after revealing that he discussed surrogacy with two female staffers.

The eight-term lawmaker, a staunch conservative and fierce opponent of abortion, said in a statement that he never physically intimidated, coerced or attempted to have any sexual contact with any member of his congressional staff.

Palestinians clashed with Israeli troops across the West Bank and Gaza, and Muslim worshippers from Jordan to Indonesia poured into the streets after Friday prayers to protest President Donald Trump’s recognition of contested Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Protesters burned Israeli and U.S. flags or stomped on Trump posters in displays of anger.
