Park Service extends comment period for proposed fee hike

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) — The National Park Service is giving people more time to weigh in on a proposed fee increase at 17 of its most popular parks.

Visitors would be charged $70 per vehicle, up from the current $30 fee, during the five busiest months of the year. At others, the hike is from $25 to $70.

Driver of funeral home vehicle killed in crash

GREENE (AP) — State police say a funeral home employee transporting a body was killed when his van was hit from behind by a sport utility vehicle.

Police say the crash killed 59-year-old Richard Charest of Winthrop. It happened on Route 202 in Greene on Monday evening.

Police investigate pair of burglaries

The first burglary was reported at Chad Little Outdoor Power Equipment on Pleasant Street Sunday morning after an alarm was triggered just before 6:30 a.m.

Sheriff admits to sending sexually explicit photo

PORTLAND (AP) — The president of the Maine Sheriff's Association has been ousted after a sexually explicit photograph of the sheriff in his office while in uniform surfaced.

WGME-TV reports Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant confirmed the explicit photo was him Tuesday. Gallant says he sent the photo to a woman he didn't want to identify.

Police: Body found inside shipping container on fish pier

ROCKLAND (AP) — Maine police say a man was found dead inside a shipping container at a Rockland pier.

Police say the body of 37- year-old Adam Purington was found inside a bait shipping container Saturday morning. The Bangor Daily News reports that Purington had previously slept in the container.

Connector road idea picking up speed

A connector road linking Admiral Fitch Drive and Gurnet Road is coming closer to reality, with a potential construction date in late winter.

According to Brunswick Economic Development Director Linda Smith, the planning board met with a consulting firm in late October, where the sketch plan was approved for the estimated $1.9 million project.
