Lisbon planning for performance arts center

Lisbon High School is a small step closer to a new performing arts center.

The school committee voted 4-1 last week to advertise for an architect for the project.

The high school’s new gym has been open for a little more than two years, and no clear timeline has been set to replace the old gym with a performing arts center.

Aqua lab seeks grant for Landing expansion

Kennebec River Biosciences is moving to Brunswick Landing — and it wants the town’s help.

The full-service aquatic animal health lab is asking the Brunswick Town Council to apply for a $400,000 grant that will help fund a $850,000 upgrade at its new location. The business is anticipating the creation of more than a dozen new jobs.

Woodside evacuated following bomb threat

A bomb threat at Woodside Elementary School in Topsham prompted an evacuation and the rerouting of buses Friday morning.

According to Topsham Police Chief Chris Lewis, the school notified police of the threat at 8:32 a.m. Lewis said a parent reported their child overheard a bomb threat.

BIW gets $14.9M to design frigate

Bath Iron Works has secured another contract.

The Navy announced Friday that BIW was awarded $14.95 million to create a concept design for its new class of guided missile frigate.

The Navy is looking to purchase up to 20 of the yet unnamed FFG(X), with the first frigate to be procured in fiscal year 2020.
