Bruins sign Chara to extension

Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara signed a contract that will take him through his 42nd birthday, and he’s already anticipating the next one.

“I believe, myself, that I’m going to be playing beyond this contract,” he said on Wednesday after agreeing to a one-year deal that will pay him at least $5 million.

TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat’s Noah Austin was recently named to the All Conference First Team in Class A Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference hockey.

Brunswick’s Jacob Doring was also recognized, grabbing Class B First Team honors. Scout Masse was named to the Second Team as a defenseman for Brunswick.

Karl-Anthony Towns scored a franchise-record 56 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for his league-leading 63rd double-double, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 126-114 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night.

Towns was 6 of 8 from 3- point range for Minnesota, which recovered after a disappointing loss Monday to Memphis.
