Maine governor’s deputy chief of staff stepping down

Maine gov issues state of emergency amid storm, outages

PORTLAND ( AP) — Maine’s governor has issued a state of emergency proclamation as state grapples with a powerful wind and rain storm and thousands of power outages.

The number of homes and businesses in the dark in Maine has surpassed the peak number from the infamous ice storm of 1998. More than 480,000 homes were in the dark Monday afternoon.

With a weather emergency issued for Bowdoin College, and non-essential staff asked to stay home Monday, crews on the Brunswick campus were cleaning up from the aftermath of Sunday night’s storm.

“It’s kind of a mess up here,” Scott Hood, senior vice president of communications and public affairs for the college, said on Monday afternoon.
