Scout seeks help restoring cemetery

BOWDOIN — A young Bowdoin resident is hoping to get some help from the community Sunday to restore the Hillsbury Cemetery as part of his Eagle’s Scout Project.

Jacob Ross, 17, is a member of Bowdoin’s Boy Scout Troop 639. He will be at the cemetery at 1085 River Road on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will return the following Sunday, Nov. 12.

City Charter Change Could do Bath Good

Lacking information, council votes down permit

By a 6-1 vote Thursday, the Freeport Town Council voted not to issue an overweight moving permit for the 80-ton Island Rover vessel, which remains unwelcome by the Bucknam Road neighborhood.

Owners of the vessel, Carter Becker and Harold Arndt, can reapply for a permit, but will likely miss the Nov. 15 deadline they had suggested for the launching.

Androscoggin County Sheriff Eric Samson is warning citizens of a phone scam that is occurring throughout Androscoggin County. A male identifying himself as Lt. Vance Berry of the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office has been calling residents telling them they missed jury duty and a warrant for their arrest has been issued.

Hit hard by storm, Freeport cleans up

Central Maine Power Company estimates it has restored power to more than 80 percent of the customers who lost service after a wind and rain storm tore through the state earlier this week. By 10 p.m. Thursday, outages had dropped to an estimated 80,000 customer accounts from a peak of 404,000 at midday Monday, according to a company press release.
