Pats’ broadcaster Gil Santos dies on 80th birthday

Gil Santos, the New England Patriots’ longtime radio voice, died Thursday on his 80th birthday and 57th wedding anniversary.

Son Mark Santos confirmed the death to The Boston Globe. He said the cause of death wasn’t immediately clear to the family.

Meta (Taffy) Meyer Kurrus, 86, died peacefully on January 25 in Bath, Maine, children at her side.

She was born January 29, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri to Roderick M. and Audrey Martin Meyer, and spent a happy childhood amidst her extended family. After graduating from Kirkwood High School in 1948, she studied German and art history at Washington University.

Austin died abruptly in a tragic accident Thursday, April 5th, 2018 while serving the United States Navy, in Manama, Bahrain. Austin’s life was taken much too soon when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road with friends.

Tammie Jo Shults was determined to “break into the club” of male military aviators.

One of the first female fighter pilots in the U.S. Navy, Shults flew training missions as an enemy pilot during Operation Desert Storm, while working with other women to see a rule excluding them from combat flights repealed.

In 2017, more than 330 women, spanning from teens to seniors, attended the conference that drew participants from all over New England.

State ferry service hike doubles prices, sets off residents

BANGOR (AP) — Some Maine residents are up in arms over a state ferry service hike that has more than doubled the price of a ticket.

The Bangor Daily News reports the increase that goes into effect May 21 sets the standard price for the entire system at $11 for a round-trip adult ticket and $30 for a person with a vehicle.

Rockport restores server after ransomware attack

ROCKPORT (AP) — The Rockport Town Office reopened this week following a ransomware attack.

The Portland Press Herald reports municipal servers were infected with the virus last Friday. Town Manager Rick Bates said in a statement that information technicians were able to rebuild the servers and restore the encrypted data. No data was stolen in the attack.
