Firefighters contain brush fires, save home

SANFORD (AP) — Firefighters in Maine have contained two brush fires in the town of Sanford.

WGME-TV reports the first fire started around 2 p.m. Monday. The second fire began about 15 minutes later. Sanford fire officials responded to the first brush fire while crews from multiple neighboring towns addressed the second blaze.

Victoria Scott was charged three months after the death of 43-year-old Edwin Littlefield, who was found dead outside a friend’s home in February 2017.

Maine again breaks record for low unemployment

AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine labor officials say the state set another record for lowest unemployment rate in March.

The unemployment rate dropped to 2.7 percent in March, a drop of a little more than half a percentage point from March 2017. The Maine Department of Labor says that’s the lowest it has been since the current methodology was adopted in 1976.
