GOP chastises Dems for blocking hearing

AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine Republicans are criticizing Democrats for blocking an effort to hold a public hearing on a ballot question to raise taxes to provide home care for elderly and disabled people needing help with daily activities.

The referendum is now headed for the November ballot after lawmakers failed to pass it.

Backers of ‘Eastern Wildway’ plan to present idea in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK (AP) — A Maine environmental group is hosting a presentation about the concept of an “Eastern Wildway” to help wildlife travel across North America.

Friends of Merrymeeting Bay is hosting the event on Wednesday in Brunswick. The group says Rewilding Institute executive director John Davis will speak about the proposal to help wildlife.

Richmond woman ups reward for cow killer arrest, conviction

A reward offered by a Richmond woman for information leading to arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for killing her two pet cows in 2015 has increased to $5,000.

Daria M. Goggins discovered her two cows — Theodore and Isadora — dead in a field, apparently killed by what police said was either a crossbow or compound bow.
