Officials released more water from Houston area reservoirs overwhelmed by Harvey early today in a move aimed at protecting the city’s downtown from devastating floods but that could still endanger thousands of homes, even as the nation’s fourth-largest city braced for more rain.
The Great State of Maine Air Show returned to Brunswick over the weekend with aerial stunts, static displays, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and sunny skies. The two-day event saw nearly 45,000 attendees and, according to air show spokesman Herb Gillen, it was a very pleasant weekend overall.
Author Barbara Kent Lawrence will introduce “The Other Island: Ben’ s Story,” sequel to her seventh book and first novel, “Islands of Time,” on Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House.
On Aug. 28 from 4: 30- 6 p.m. an afternoon geology walk with Peter Goodwin will take place at the Merrymeeting Bay Wildlife Management Area in Bowdoinham.
The Midcoast High Winds Flute Choir is a group of upper-intermediate and advanced flutists. The group provides both personal growth for the musicians involved and outreach to the community through performances for local libraries, retirement communities and civic groups.

The show, “Home Is Where The Heart Is,” consists of a series of contemporary representational paintings drawn mostly from Gabbe’s life in Maine.
For people with eating disorders, said Patrice Lockhart, art can be an important part of their recovery.
