SAD 75 prepares for start of school

As School Administrative District 75 staff prepares for the new school year to begin next Tuesday, students in Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell and Topsham can expect to see some new faces.

“We have new teachers in every school this year,” School Administrative District 75 Superintendent Brad Smith said.

Harkins out, August in as RSU 1 board leader

Longtime Regional School Unit 1 Chairman Timothy Harkins has resigned from the board to take up a new position with the district as the food services director, Superintendent Patrick Manuel confirmed at Monday’s RSU 1 board meeting.

As an employee of the district, Harkins can no longer serve on the board, Manuel said.

The Hartford Yard Goats (61-73) scored eight runs over two innings and defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (62- 72), 8-5, Tuesday night at Dunkin Donuts Park.

With the Eastern League win, the Yard Goats clinched the season series from Portland. The ’Dogs have lost 10 straight on the road.

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt has put the names of more than 350 people, including prominent Muslim Brotherhood figures, on its terrorism list.

The designation, announced over two days this week in the government’s official Gazette, bans those on the list from travel, puts them on a watch list and grants authorities the right to freeze their assets.
