Harpswell man trapped in car 10 hours after colliding with house

HARPSWELL

A Harpswell man was found seriously injured on Bailey Island Wednesday morning after being trapped in a car for nearly 10 hours after his vehicle struck a house.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff ’s Office, incident at 2196 Harpswell Islands Road is believed to have occurred around midnight Tuesday, but wasn’t reported until 9:53 a.m. Wednesday.

Just before the shooting broke out, some students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School thought they were having another fire drill.

Such an exercise had forced them to leave their classrooms hours earlier. So when the alarm went off Wednesday afternoon shortly before they were to be dismissed, they once again filed out into the hallways.

Absent state action, Bath sees need for retail pot moratorium

Recreational marijuana won’t be coming to Bath anytime soon.

The Bath City Council on Wednesday night approved first passage of a six-month moratorium for any retail marijuana establishment, which city staff stated was necessary due to the lack of guidelines from the state.
