Bowdoin’s Vailas earns NESCAC honor

BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College senior wide receiver Nick Vailas has been named Second Team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference in football awards handed out by the league on Tuesday.

Vailas closed out a sensational career with a flourish, hauling in 56 receptions, second most in the NESCAC, for 729 yards, fourth in the NESCAC.

UNE tops Bowdoin, 3-2

The University of New England men’s ice hockey team took its only lead of the game late in the third period and held on for a 3-2 Tuesday night final against Bowdoin.

The Polar Bears fell to 1-2, while the Nor’Easters climbed to 3-3-1.

Bath 8th boys earn first win

BATH — The Bath Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team evened its record to 1-1 with a 46-35 victory over Yarmouth recently.

Leading the Destroyer offense was Jansen Morrison with 15 points. Josh Ter Mors added 14 and Gabe Aucoin 13.

Chase Nicolino and Elliot Dorr were defensive standouts against the Clippers.

Davenport powers Bates to hoops win

GORHAM — Former Freeport High School standout Nina Davenport poured in 27 points and added eight rebounds and four steals to lead the Bates College women’s basketball team to a 68-56 victory over the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday.

The Bobcats (1-2) picked up their first victory of the season, while the Huskies (0- 4) remained winless.

Vladimir Tarasenko had two goals and two assists and got in a rare fight Tuesday night, helping the St. Louis Blues to an 8-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Brayden Schenn also had two goals and two assists, and Jake Allen stopped 26 shots for the NHL-leading Blues (16-5-1).
