The Portland Press Herald reports 53-year-old Ken Fredette announced his run Wednesday morning at his law offices.

Fredette is barred from seeking re-election as the House minority leader due to term limits.

Governor encourages Mainers to provide hurricane aid

Maine Gov. Paul LePage is encouraging residents to think of those harmed by Hurricane Harvey in Texas and those in harm's way as Hurricane Irma approaches Florida.

LePage said Wednesday that his office will match the first $50,000 donated to Harvey and Irma relief through the Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal.

Jackknifed truck clogs Rt 1

The driver of a tractor trailer truck that jackknifed on Route 1 northbound in West Bath Wednesday afternoon escaped serious injury, but the incident snarled traffic for three hours.
