Anair goal powers MMA to soccer win

CASTINE — The Maine Maritime Academy women’s soccer squad cruised to a 5-0 win over Unity College in a season opener on Friday afternoon at Ritchie Field.

Sophomore and former Richmond High School standout Kelsea Anair added a goal in the 44th minute to send the Mariners into halftime with a 4-0 lead.

Patriots trade QB Brissett to Colts for Dorsett

The New England Patriots have traded quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for receiver Phillip Dorsett.

The deal was announced Saturday in advance of the deadline for NFL teams to set their 53-man rosters for the start of the regular season.

Gordon mans net for Terriers

GORHAM — Sophomore Maddison Egan scored in the 83rd minute to break a 1-1 tie, delivering a 2-1 season-opening win for the University of Southern Maine Huskies over the Thomas College Terriers Friday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Southern Maine leads the 16-game series between the two schools 13-1-2.

USM outshot the Terriers, 14-2, and had a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.

Mt. Ararat JV FH rolls, 7-0

TOPSHAM — Tegan Byrne scored a pair of first-half goals as the Mt. Ararat High School jayvee field hockey team downed Lewiston, 7-0, in recent action.

Annie Wilkins also had two goals in the win, with one each coming from Emily Merriman, Olivia Justice and Grace Morrell.

Brunswick frosh football victorious

BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School freshman football team started the 2017 season with a 34–14 win over Edward Little in recent play.

Fullback Cam Hathaway led the Dragons offense with 250 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns. Wide receiver Drew Desantis made four solid blocks to spring Hathaway for large gains and sealed the game with a critical pass reception.
