2 motorcyclists killed in collision during charitable ride

AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine State Police say two motorcyclists participating in a charitable ride have died in a collision with a pickup truck.

Police say the pickup’s two occupants and two other motorcyclists were also injured in the crash on Interstate 95 in Augusta early Sunday afternoon.

Police investigate suspicious death on downtown street

PORTLAND ( AP) — Police in Portland are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on a downtown street.

Police tell the Portland Press Herald that the dead man was discovered by a passerby early Sunday morning in the Old Port section of the city.

Authorities say the death is suspicious.

The deceased’s name has not been released.

New law bans lead fishing tackle to protect loons

AUGUSTA (AP) — A new Maine law bans lead fishing tackle in hopes of protecting loons.

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says keeping lead fishing weights out of Maine waters will better the birds’ survival and spur population growth across the Northeast.

Ingesting lead fishing tackle is the leading cause of death for the birds.
