Police identify victim of Lewiston hit-and-run

LEWISTON (AP) — Police in Maine have identified a Lewiston man as the victim in a hit-and-run over the weekend.

Lewiston police say 48- year-old Louie St. Pierre was pronounced dead Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle near an intersection. The Sun Journal reports police received a call early Sunday morning and when they arrived, the vehicle was gone.

Maine-New Hampshire bridge to open by year’s end

KITTERY (AP) — The bridge between Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, will open in a matter of weeks.

Maine-based contractor Cianbro is being fined $1,000 a day after the Sept. 1 opening of the new Sarah Mildred Long Bridge, was delayed.

Ron Taylor from Maine DOT tells WGME-TV that it’s been a “very long and challenging process.”

Ex-teacher pleads not guilty to sexual contact with student

ALFRED (AP) — A former teacher at a Maine high school has pleaded not guilty to a 14-count indictment charging her with having a sexual relationship with a student.

The Portland Press Herald reports 29-year-old Jill Lamontagne, of Kennebunk, is charged with gross sexual assault, sexual abuse of a minor and unlawful sexual touching. She is free on $1,000 bail.

PORTLAND

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree’s campaign said Monday she’s considering a run for Maine governor.

Pingree’s spokesman, Jesse Connolly, said the Democratic congresswoman will decide whether to join the 2018 race by the end of December. Nearly two dozen hopefuls have registered to run for governor, and Pingree would join 10 Democratic candidates.
