Sydney Underhill-Tilton scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the second half as the Richmond High School girls basketball earned team downed Oak Hill, 49-33, in Mountain Valley Conference action on Thursday.

The Bobcats won their first game in the MVC to improve to 1-1.

The North Yarmouth Academy girls basketball team used its experience, speed and athleticism to outlast the Hyde Wolfpack for a 53-30 victory in Class C basketball action.

With a roster of athletes that don’t have a lot of basketball experiences, the home team fought to the final buzzer while falling to 0-2 on the young season.

France rolls back death toll to 4 kids in train-bus crash

French authorities backtracked Friday, reducing the death toll from six children to least four after a regional train sliced open a school bus in southern France.

Authorities in the Pyrenees-Orientales region said their statement earlier in the day that six children had died was not confirmed in the horrific crash at a crossing close to the Spanish border.

‘Youthquake’ is Oxford word of 2017

LONDON (AP) — Oxford Dictionaries recognized the power of the millennial generation Friday with its 2017 word of the year : youthquake.

Oxford lexicographers say there was a fivefold increase in use of the term between 2016 and 2017.

It is defined as “a significant cultural, political, or social change arising from the actions or influence of young people.”

A pilot has traced a virtual Christmas tree over Germany on a test flight with an Airbus A380.

Airbus spokesman Heiko Stolzke told news agency dpa Thursday that the nearly 5 1/2-hour flight the previous day was “a standard internal Airbus test flight before the delivery of a new aircraft.”

Hoffman accused of new incidents of sexual misconduct

More women are accusing Dustin Hoffman of sexual misconduct, including an incident in which a playwright says the actor exposed himself to her in a New York hotel room when she was 16 years old.

Playwright Cori Thomas described the 1980 incident in a story published Thursday by the trade outlet Variety. She confirmed the story in an email to The Associated Press.
