Eagles slip past Cony

Nick Merrill scored off a throw-in from Dalton Streeter as the Mt. Ararat High School boys soccer team slipped past Cony, 1-0, in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference action on Thursday.

Merrill’s goal came with 21:03 left in regulation.

Mt. Ararat (4-2-2) outshot and out-cornered the Rams, 8-1, with Cony goaltender Hussein Al-Abraihi making seven saves.

First-year Poland High School field hockey coach Kayla Royer wanted the Knights to make an impact in the Western Maine Conference this season. On Thursday, they put a statement win on the resume with a 4-3 victory over Freeport in overtime.

The Knights came back from a 3-1 deficit in the second half to improve to 7-3 on the season.

Plus he is so little that when he sat on the bus for orientation, the only way to know he was there was by standing in the aisle directly over him.

With volunteers and staff seated before him, Bishop Robert P. Deeley celebrated a special morning Mass inside the Presence Radio Network studio in Auburn on Wednesday. The Mass helped launch the “Light in the Darkness” Pledge Drive to raise funding for the network’s seven radio stations in Maine.

The pledge drive runs through Saturday.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus says she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The star of “Veep” and “Seinfeld” posted word of her illness Thursday on social media. A spokeswoman for Louis-Dreyfus confirmed the posts were authentic.

On her Twitter account, the actress wrote that one in eight women get breast cancer.
