‘Winter Family Fun Day’ postponed by lack of snow

DENNYSVILLE (AP) — A celebration of winter and family fun in Down East Maine has been pushed back by a lack of snow.

Cobscook Bay State Park Winter Family Fun Day was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says it has moved the event to Feb. 17 due to a lack of snow.

Maine college ends deal with failed paper mill redeveloper

NC man makes initial court appearance in Maine shooting

MILLINOCKET (AP) — A North Carolina man charged in connection with a fatal home invasion in Millinocket has made his first appearance in court.

Thirty- eight- year- old Christopher Murray, of Maxton, North Carolina, was ordered held without bail by a judge on Tuesday.

Murray and another man are charged in the death of 59-year-old Wayne Lapierre.

Maine’s 1st Somali police officer busted at Mass. concert

PORTLAND (AP) — Maine’s first Somali police officer is on paid leave during an investigation after her arrest over the weekend in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Worcester police charged Zahra Munye Abu, of Portland, with several misdemeanors including assault and battery, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

The study is to determine if winter ticks are the primary cause of increased moose mortality and decreased productivity, and how weather, forest-cutting, and moose density interact to influence tick numbers on moose.

Group acquires parcel key to Maine dam removal project

SULLIVAN (AP) — A conservation group has acquired about seven acres in Down East Maine as part of a dam removal project.

The Downeast Salmon Federation says it has taken ownership of the parcel in Sullivan that surrounds the head of tide of Smelt Brook, which has been blocked by a stone dam for more than 50 years.

State police: 4 people seriously injured in head-on crash

HERMON (AP) — Maine State Police say four people were seriously injured in a morning head-on crash involving three vehicles in Hermon.

Police say around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, a driver heading east on Route 2 crossed the center dividing line. WABI-TV reports the driver slammed into another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Police: 2 overdose while infant at home

Bath police say a couple overdosed an hour apart Monday afternoon while their two-month old baby was home.

At 1:19 p.m. the child’s father called for Bath Rescue after his girlfriend overdosed in a Floral Street home, according to Bath police. Lt. Robert Savary said the girlfriend was administered Narcan and revived. She was taken to Mid Coast Hospital.

Forecast calls for a messy commute in New England
