Brunswick Orange JV girls win pair

The Dragons defeated Messalonskee, 38-37, on Friday evening in Oakland, and then defeated Morse Saturday afternoon in Bath, 62-41.

The program is coached by volunteers Jeffrey Dolley and Rich Giustra.

Coach Dolley sees potential for this sport in the town of Brunswick.

“Wrestling did a lot for me when I was in school, and I believe it can do a lot for Brunswick kids.” said Dolley.

NEWCASTLE — The Mt. Ararat High School freshman boys basketball team led 20-12 after the opening quarter and never looked back as they defeated Lincoln Academy, 50-38.

The visitors held leads of 25-12 and 38-20 at the half and through three quarters.

Boston Bruins rookie Charlie McAvoy has been treated for an abnormal heart rhythm and is expected to need about two weeks to recover.

The 20-year-old defenseman first reported heart palpitations to team doctors on Nov. 26.

He was diagnosed with an abnormally fast heart rate. Team internist David Finn says it is not considered dangerous but is likely to recur.

A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck off Alaska’s Kodiak Island early this morning, prompting a tsunami warning for a large swath of the state’s coast and sending some residents fleeing to higher ground.

Officials at the National Tsunami Center canceled the warning after a few tense hours after waves failed to show up in coastal Alaska communities.
