WOOLWICH — Incumbent Selectmen Allison Hepler and Jason Shaw won reelection in a three-person race for two seats with 40 percent and 44 percent of the vote, respectively. Challenger James Gabor was unable to defeat the two incumbents to win a seat on the Board of Selectmen.

Lisbon approves bonds, elects Cunningham to school board

Ross Cunningham came out on top of a three-way race for a three-year seat on the Lisbon School Committee.

He had been appointed by the school committee last month to fill the remainder of the term of committee member Gina Mason, who died unexpectedly on Sept. 5, and who had also had a seat in the Maine House.

Bowdoinham elects Gray, re-elects Lewis

BOWDOINHAM — In a three-way race for two seats, voters Tuesday reelected Peter “Tony” Lewis and elected Judith Gray to the Bowdoinham Board of Selectmen. Gray and Lewis received 612 and 514 votes, respectively. Graham Buck was also running for a seat but was the low vote-getter with 384 votes.

PORTLAND(AP) — Residents of Lewiston and Auburn have overwhelmingly rejected a proposed merger.

Supporters said that combining two cities into a single municipality with nearly 60,000 residents and the state's largest school system would've saved money.

The proposal needed majorities in both cities.

Truck rollover causes 3-hour road closure in Woolwich

WOOLWICH

Montsweag Road in Woolwich was closed for three hours Tuesday after a concrete truck rolled over when its driver attempted to navigate a sharp turn just before 10 a.m., according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Office.

Lt. Brian Quinn with the sheriff ’s office said the Auburn Concrete truck was driven by Travis Oakes, 23, of Wilton.

Utilities restoring power to last of storm victims

PORTLAND (AP) — Crews are restoring power to the last of the customers left in the dark by a powerful fall storm more than a week ago.

The storm peaked in the early morning of Oct. 30, leaving nearly a half million homes and businesses without power in Maine. The state's two main power companies said there were only about 400 customers left without power on Tuesday night.

Fire fills Brunswick hotel with smoke

BRUNSWICK

A Brunswick hotel was evacuated Monday night after smoke escaped a room and filled the second story hallway.

Brunswick Fire Department was called to Days Inn at 224 Bath Road at 8:22 p.m.

Chief Ken Brillant said the smoke was caused by plastic on pots and pans burning in an oven, filling the efficiency room with black smoke.
