World War II veteran’s remains returned to Maine

CARIBOU (AP) — The remains of Caribou man who served in World War II are back in Maine for burial.

Marine Corps Reserve Pvt. Alberic Blanchette died at 19 on a small island that’s part of the Gilbert Islands on Nov. 20, 1943. Approximately 1,000 marines and sailors were killed.

Person leaving offensive fliers found

BRUNSWICK

Brunswick police say they have identified the person responsible for leaving fliers that appear to link the LGBT community with communism.

Cmdr. Mark Waltz said the fliers were distributed Friday on Maine Street in the area of the First Parish Church.

Surveillance video captured a license plate that led police to the individual who distributed the fliers.
