BOSTON — For the eighth consecutive year, the Boston Red Sox Foundation is seeking submissions from inspiring senior students at Mt. Ararat High School, dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities.
LEWISTON — Carson Taylor had 14 points and Spencer LeClair chipped in 11 as the Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team slipped past Lewiston, 50-40 on Monday.
Cody Bowker added eight points and Ben Keleher had six for the Eagles.
TOPSHAM — The Billy Chenard Season Opener kicked off the high school ski season at Sugarloaf on Saturday.
Mt. Ararat freshman skier Sadie Skinner had a solid opening run, completing the 2.5K course in 12.46.
She placed 24th out of 57 competitors.
FREEPORT — The Freeport High School jayvee girls basketball team picked up win and a loss in recent action.
Against Gray-New Gloucester, the Falcons fell, 37-36. Down by 27 points at halftime, Freeport rallied to make it a game. The Falcons opened the third quarter on a flurry, outscoring the Patriots 23-2 behind Rachel Walls’ game-high 15-point performance.
BABSON PARK, Mass. — The Bates College women’s basketball team exploded for 26 points in the third quarter, erasing an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Roanoke College, 60-52 Tuesday afternoon in a neutral-site game at Babson College.
TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team improved to 3-1 with a 42-14 over Lewiston on Monday.
The Eagles jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back, leading 27-4 at the half and 35-10 after three.
BRUNSWICK — Three Brunswick masters swimmers braved a winter storm to compete — and win — at the New England Fall Championships.
The three-day competition, with 480 entrants, was held at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s 25-meter pool.
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 27 points, Eric Bledsoe had 26 and the Milwaukee Bucks held off the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-116 on Tuesday night.

The Eagles got out to another quick start, using pressure defense and quick baskets to start on a 12-2 run. Mt. Ararat finished the quarter leading 20-7, with Lillie Singleton scoring eight of her 14 points.
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 39 shots, Paul Carey scored twice and the New York Rangers beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Tuesday night.
Kevin Hayes and Michael Grabner also scored for New York, and Nick Holden and David Desharnais each had two assists. The Rangers have won three straight.
