Coastal Humane Society, Petco Foundation to hold adoption event

BRUNSWICK — The Coastal Humane Society is teaming up with Petco of Topsham for All for Holiday Homes, a mega adoption weekend on Dec. 2-3 at the Topsham Fair Mall location. Dozens of puppies, kittens, adult dogs and cats will be up for adoption from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

More High School Principal John Pinkerton is retiring at the end of the school year.

The school leader informed Regional School Unit 1 of his plans last week, said Superintendent Patrick Manuel.

“When we hired him, he said he would give us at least five years, and this is his fifth year,” said Manuel.

Big butterscotchy oatmeal cookies

I haven’t been consistently happy with my oatmeal cookie recipe for a while. Sometimes they turn out perfectly — fairly flat, chewy and moist in the middle, with crinkly, caramelized edges (not cakey or rounded) and a butterscotch-esque flavor. Other times, they don’t follow orders, staying too puffed, or becoming a little dry and less damply dense than I crave.
