AUBURN — Marcus Steinman scored an unassisted goal 15 minutes into the game and the score held as Mt. Ararat High School boys’ jayvee soccer team edged Edward Little, 1-0 on Friday.
The Eagles ( 2- 0) got strong play from midfielders Jax Hollenbach and Dakota Lopez. Nathan Taylor and Nathan Kolfrogh also contributed in the win.
BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College first-year setter Kate Kiser has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
It is the first weekly award for Kiser, who helped lead the Polar Bears to a 3- 1 record to open the 2017 season.
BANGOR — The University of Southern Maine men’s cross country team swept the first six positions to post a perfect score and win the annual Husson Harrier Classic run Saturday at Saxl Park.
LEWISTON — The Brunswick High School girls’ jayvee soccer team battled to a 1- 1 draw against Lewiston on Friday.
Neither team found the back of the net until the middle of the second half, when Riley Turgeon scored on a header.
Lewiston responded quickly with a goal of its own off of a free kick just beyond the 18-yard line.
BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School freshman football team downed Morse, 28-14 in a hard fought battle on Thursday.
Brunswick had to adjust after losing strong side linebacker Connor Moody to a hip injury.
TOPSHAM — The Morse High School jayvee soccer team started its season with a hard- caught tie against Erskine Academy recently.
The Shipbuilders began their strike midway through the first half when Marija Mederica delivered a pass through the middle and met Mary LaRochelle, who sent the shot to the top of the net.
The rookie head coach iced the rookie kicker.
