BIW, union strive to avoid strike

Heading into the weekend, negotiations continue between the Bath Marine Draftsmen’s Association and Bath Iron Works.

The BMDA is BIW’s second largest union with more than 700 members, behind the Local S6.

“The bargaining committee continues to work today in an attempt to come to a fair resolution,” stated the union on social media Thursday.

Brunswick JH boys earn soccer win

BRUNSWICK — On Monday, both Brunswick Junior High School seventh- and eighth-grade boys soccer teams opened the 2017 season with wins over visiting Oxford Hills.

The eighth-grade game was a nail-biter, Simon Paledzki was the second-half hero, netting two goals to garner the 2-1 victory for the Huskies.

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat seventh-grade boys soccer team opened its season on Monday by battling to a 2-2 tie at home against Tripp Middle School.

The first half saw the Eagles struggle to keep possession of the ball in the offensive end, and a couple of defensive miscues led to a halftime deficit of 2-0.

Kiley Merritt and Destiney Deschaines scored a goal each as the Lisbon High School girls soccer team picked up a key 2-1 Mountain Valley Conference win over Hall-Dale on Wednesday.

Emma Digregorio assisted on Merritt’s goal, while Merritt set up Deschaines for the game-winner.

Lisbon outshot the Bulldogs, 18-6. Goaltender Anna Willey had five saves.
