Temperature tops 80 degrees again in northern Maine

CARIBOU (AP) — Northern Maine has recorded a fourth consecutive day of 80-degree weather, something that a weather forecaster describes as “unprecedented.”

The National Weather Service says the temperature hit 88 degrees on Tuesday for a second consecutive day in Caribou.

Prosecutor: Killing followed feud over drug debt

FARMINGTON (AP) — A murder trial is underway in Farmington for a Maine man charged with killing another man in a dispute over a drug debt.

The lead prosecutor told jurors that 25-year-old Timothy Danforth of Wilton killed a man in June 2016 over a $200 bag of marijuana.

Unusual bloom could be harmful to fish, shellfish

PORTLAND (AP) — The Maine Department of Marine Resources says it’s monitoring a large, unusual bloom of phytoplankton in the Casco Bay area.

The department says the bloom isn’t a threat to human health, unlike other toxic blooms it typically monitors. The species is called Karenia mikimotoi and it can have harmful effects on fish, shellfish and other marine life.

AUGUSTA (AP) — A legislative panel is gathering input on plans to double the recreational marijuana sales tax to 20 percent and allow for pot drive-thru's and home delivery of pot.

The Legislature’s Joint Select Committee on Marijuana Legalization Implementation held a Tuesday hearing on an omnibus bill that tweaks the voter approved recreational marijuana law.
